Ashlyn and Ben met through Hinge in late 2020 — and, apparently, the algorithm knew what it was doing, as they matched as each other’s “Most Compatible.”

Their first date was at Jackdaw in the East Village, where they sat outside in December due to COVID-19 restrictions. The restaurant had different hours than what was posted online, and was actually closing within 45 minutes of their arrival — a memorable start to a relationship.

Within two months of dating, Ashlyn adopted a cat, Toast, despite Ben being allergic (and despite Ashlyn soon realizing she technically is too, even though she grew up with cats). In 2024, they adopted their sheltie puppy, Riley, who they are convinced is the world’s smallest Sheltie. They even looked into the Guinness World Records for proof — though the record book doesn’t record this (they looked into it…twice).

Ashlyn brought her love of running into the relationship, including running the NYC Marathon in 2023. Ben introduced her to his love of winter sports — specifically skiing. She’s still working on it, but she’s getting there.

On November 9, 2024, Ben proposed in Central Park — after luring Ashlyn there by saying they were taking Riley for a walk. They were late to their own engagement because Ashlyn insisted on stopping for a chicken sandwich (because why not wander on a lovely Saturday?). All their friends and family were waiting at a bar to celebrate afterward — just like Ashlyn wanted.

They’re so excited to celebrate with everyone at the wedding this October!
